Lord Srikrishn demonstrated the significance
of celibacy. He went to the mount Kailash to perform tapasya for twelve
years before fathering his eldest son Pradyumn. The total number of his sons is
said to be over one lakhs as his each queen begot ten sons. When Pradyumn was
seven days old Shambarasur kidnapped him and took to his palace. Lord Srikrishn
although capable of killing the demon did not do so being aware of the past and
future purpose of the event. Mayavati who was the wife of Shambar saw Pradyumn
and recognised him as his husband Kamdev who had been burnt down by Lord Shiv
long back. She was thrilled to find him after eons of separation. Being aware
of her relationship she did not breastfed Pradyumn and asked her maid to feed
him on liquid food. She brought him up. As he grew up, Mayavati used to make
meaningful gestures to him, which Pradyumn objected to and rebuked her.
Mayavati then confided in him that he was Kamdev and she was Rati in their
previous lives. Lord Shiv had ordained
on her request that she would find her husband in Dwaparyug in the
palace of Shambarasur. Pradyumn learnt many skills from Mayavati and killed the
Asur. Mayavati flew him to Dwarka. Rukmani and other queens could not
recognize Pradyumn who looked exactly like his father but Lord Srikrishn
welcomed both of them home.
Samb the eloper
Handsome and
brave Samb, the son of Jambavati and Lord Srikrishn, wishful to wed the daughter of Duryodhan,
reached Hastinapur in her swayamvar. Without caring for anyone he lifted
the princess Luxmana up and took her away. Duryodhan and Karn etc. consulted
their elders and obtained their permission to arrest Samb. Six mighty kings ran
to arrest him. Samb faced them bravely and attacked all the six simultaneously.
After a fierce battle the Kaurav succeeded in defeating him and brought him
back to Hastinapur with the princess. Sage Narad broke the news in Dwarka. Lord
Srikrishn and his relatives got furious and decided to teach arrogant Kaurav a
lesson. They rose to fight back to save their honour with the permission of
king Ugrasen. But Balaram who was the guru of Duryodhan stilled all. He took
other elders and reached Hastinapur to have a dialogue with the Kaurav. Uddhav
was sent as a messenger to Dhritarashtr.
Kaurav welcomed him and Balaram told them the message of grandfather
Ugrasen that Samb should be sent to Dwarka with his bride. The Kaurav reacted
sharply by uttering humiliating speech. Balaram got furious and decided to
drown their kingdom. He took his Hala, dug into the earth and began to
draw the entire Hastinapur to drown in the river Ganga. The Kaurav were
terrified to see the earth shaking. They sought pardon from Balaram and sent
Samb and Luxmana with gifts to Dwarka. Lord Srikrishn welcomed his son and
daughter-in-law with great love and affection.
